Pregnancy Must-Haves
It’s been a while since my last blog post, and for many reasons- first COVID, which made my day job about 1000x more strenuous.. then, in late October, I got the ultimate blessing of becoming pregnant! Now that I am in my third trimester, I feel as though I have been through a little bit of everything when it comes to pregnancy: back pain, swollen ankles, insomnia, you name it. While every pregnancy is different, mine was one that definitely had a few bumps here and there.. and since I like to problem solve, I NEEDED a solution to each problem. Here’s some of the non-sexy but essential items that I found along the way that have helped me make my pregnancy a little easier.
Compression Socks
These compression socks from Bombas were the best for preventing edema in the ankles and feet. Are they the cutest things ever? No.. but cuter than swollen ankles. Long story short, the first time I had swollen ankles was pretty early on.. and I was so scared I thought I was having a blood clot and went to the emergency room! Luckily, it was nothing but a little common fluid accumulation. Now, these are a daily necessity. I got the heavy duty 20-30mmHG and I notice a significant difference when I wear them.
Nursing Bras
Believe it or not, I have started wearing nursing bras BEFORE I’ve even given birth, because they are so dang comfortable. Unfortunately, the pressure of the belly makes wearing bras with a wire close to impossible, even if you go up a size. These nursing bras are extremely comfortable. I love this one from Hanky Panky the most because the lace ups the cuteness a little bit while still being practical. I’d buy a few while you’re at it.
Maternity leggings/jeans
You don’t think you’ll need them.. until you do. And then you’ll need more than you think. Wearing normal pants became impossible for me maybe around 18 weeks.. and I experimented with a few different styles and brands. The best leggings/jeans I found were from Spanx. They are the highest quality while also being the most comfortable. And the high rise becomes extremely necessary extremely fast.
In addition, you don’t think you need maternity workout clothes until you do. While the lululemon Align are incredible as well, the Beyond Yoga maternity leggings are even better. They are buttery soft and can last you until the end of pregnancy. Pro tip: get the ones with pockets, you’ll thank me later!
Comfy Sneakers
Just telling you now, your balance and foot comfort level is going to be a high priority as you get further along in your pregnancy. Plus, there’s a chance you may need a few new pairs of shoes as your feet expand. I bought a few too many sneakers during my pregnancy but, heck, I really couldn’t stand all day on my feet in anything else! My favorites for both comfort and style are the Vince Warren sneaker. They are a classic silhouette that hasn’t changed in years, plus they stand the test of standing/walking all day long.
Snoogle Body Pillow
I needed a body pillow as early as my first trimester due to my hip and back pain. Having a sturdy cushion for between the knees, in addition to helping you stay on your side (the preferred sleeping method), a body pillow is necessary. I love the Leachco one, and I purchased the extra long because of my height!
Belly Bandit
Last but definitely not least, the Belly Bandit belly band! These are great for hip/back pain and also supporting your growing belly. I love this particular one because it has a hot/cold pack that fits right in the back, and is held in the exact perfect spot to give you relief. Genius.
I hope one of these items truly helps some aspect of your pregnancy! I have been so thankful for the recommendations of mom-friends. As a reminder, everyone is so very different, but it’s all so worth it!
