Work to Wine: How to Look Polished All Day Long

Work to Wine: How to Look Polished All Day Long

As promised, I wanted to share some of my tips and inspiration to ensure you’ll be able to attend all the happy hours and events you can.. straight from work.

I often over schedule myself with events, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love socializing and checking out new restaurants and bars with friends. Yet, my work schedule is pretty crazy since I work retail hours as a pharmacist, so it’s never the traditional 9-5 (although these looks will work for that too). So, I oftentimes have to plan my day (and outfit) with professionalism, comfort and chicness in mind. It’s tough because most people have definite “work clothes” and “weekend clothes,” and a lot of times they do not really fit in the opposite environment. Hopefully these ideas will help solve that problem and keep you looking fresh throughout the day.

Invest in Staples

If there’s one takeaway, you can never have too many black pants. I love these Veronica Beard scuba pants from The Hive so much (and ended up getting the flare leg as well - pictured!) The quality is just so amazing. Yes, they are expensive; but they have lasted me a long time and I wear them a few times a week. They are form fitting and flattering while still being professional. My other go-to work pant is by Vince. I counted and I own 6 pairs. If I’m feeling really saucy I’ll maybe wear the green or the tan :)

Secondly, a great silk blouse looks professional and high quality, and can easily transition to night with the right accessories. My current favorites are by L’Agence. It’s worth the investment due to its timelessness and classiness.

Comfy but cute flats are hard to find. Standing for 8+ hours per day, I have found through trial and error the best flats that can actually look cute “out” after wearing and tearing them down day after day. These Tory Burch flats are so comfortable, my co-pharmacist and I swear by them. Additionally, these Ann Mashburn flats are so cute and unique but crazy comfortable. Lastly, anything by the well-made AGL is always a win (the Shoe Hive is always carrying their current styles!)

Lastly, invest in a tote or workbag. My most recent handbag purchase was this Saint Laurent tote in a simple light tan, and it goes with everything. Sometimes simple is timeless.

Accessories can transition you to night

I love Lele Sadoughi headbands (or any headband) because it gives the illusion that I look made-up when really I just threw my hair in a pony-tail. These Lele headbands don’t give me a headache after wearing for 12+ hours and come in enough colors for everyone’s taste.

I also love a blazer or jacket for night. It elevates the look and can keep you warm when the temperature drops. These Veronica Beard blazers from the Hive are a good place to start.

Adding a statement earring or necklace can also help the transition. There’s so many options out there but my favorites are probably Lizzie Fortunato from the Hive and pretty much anything from She’s Unique.

Don’t Forget to Freshen Up

Since you have that big tote bag, fill it up with essentials to help you look great after work. I tend to buy most of my beauty products from Blue Mercury (although national - the owners are from here in the DMV!) I literally had two events this week after work AND a (hard) workout that required the use of this dry shampoo and this facial mist. No one even knew I just came from Ascend Cycle. Other items I always have in my makeup bag are this Hourglass palette and this La Mer concealer.

Hope this helps your transition from work to wine. Let me know what you think in the comments!
